Some Fall Foliage

A couple weeks ago I took my camera with me on a walk to grab some photos of the fall foliage. I’ve particularly enjoyed watching the large ivy leaves turn bright red each fall here:

Five images of beige four story buildings covered in vines turning bright red and orange.

Now, just a couple weeks later, it’s just about all gone, leaving nothing but bare tendrils climbing up the sides of the buildings.

I’ve been struck to the glow some of the leaves take on as they are hit by a sun low on the southern horizon. This is different from the light I remember growing up in a more southernly location. It’s odd, as the temperatures aren’t much different, but the feel to the days is.

Fall has been a slow rolling change to the various trees. So while the ivy is about done, others are just turning, or are reaching their peak now, as our walk yesterday shows:

With the fall rains, the grass is actually thicker and green that it was all summer. We haven’t had a good hard frost yet, though the nights have dipped closer to freezing this weekend.

Enjoying every bit of yellow, orange, and red that I can before winter grays and browns take a firm hold on the landscape around us.
