We were starting to hope we might escape a proper heat wave this summer, but no luck. We had a close call (a couple hotter days) early in June, but since then things have been pretty comfortable with any warmer days followed by cool nights and rain.
Today though was the start to what is supposed to be a full week of hot days and only moderately cool nights. I have been adding the screens to the last of our windows, so they can be opened wide (instead of just tipped back) without kitties falling three stories, and ordered one last set of black out thermal blinds for the south facing balcony door.
I have also started restocking our ice, for the mini rolling “AC” unit we have. Germany is not big on air conditioning. The cat is going to love the balcony doors being open all night, and resent that she can’t go out during the day. Each morning I will watch the temperatures like a hawk, and lock down the apartment as soon as outside is the same as inside.
Oh, and I figured I had better get my baking done early today. My “pumpkin pie” was out of the oven and cooling by 9:10am this morning.

I put it in quotes, because I used a tart pan (what we could buy here) and hokkaido squash (again, what we could find). But, still pretty tasty! And now I won’t be turning on the oven again until the hot weather departs.
